The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models were unveiled at the recent Wonderlust event, featuring a new titanium build and the A 17 Pro chipsets, in contrast to the A 16 chips found in the base models. However, a number of users have reported overheating problems with the iPhone 15 Pro models, with some describing the device as becoming uncomfortably hot. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the cause of the overheating issues in the iPhone 15 Pro series is not related to TSMC’s 3 nm process in the new A 17 Pro chipset.

Kuo suggests that the heating issues may be attributed to compromises made in the thermal system design to achieve a lighter weight, resulting in reduced heat dissipation area. Additionally, the adoption of a titanium frame is said to further reduce the heat dissipation area. Kuo predicts that Apple might address the heating issues through future software updates, but cautions that improvements may be limited unless Apple decides to lower processor performance.

Numerous users have raised concerns about overheating problems in the iPhone 15 Pro models, with reports of temperatures reaching as high as 46 degrees Celsius (116 degrees Fahrenheit). A South Korean YouTube channel posted a video utilizing a thermal imaging camera to visually demonstrate the increasing temperatures of the phones. According to an analyst, there is a potential for Apple to address these issues through a software update for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, implementing such a solution may require limiting the processor’s performance. The analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, also warns that persistent overheating problems could have repercussions on the shipments of the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Apple has retained the 6.7-inch OLED display for the Pro Max model and a 6.1-inch screen for the Pro version in the iPhone 15 series. The Pro models feature Super Retina XDR displays with ProMotion technology, supporting the always-on display feature and the newly introduced StandBy mode in iOS 17, ensuring a dynamic and power-efficient visual experience. Powering both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is the A17 Pro chip, claimed by Apple to deliver unparalleled performance within the smartphone landscape, potentially rivaling high-end PCs. Concerning photography, the iPhone 15 Pro models are equipped with a 48-megapixel camera, aiming to enhance low-light performance and minimize lens flare in photos. Users can seamlessly switch between focal lengths (24mm, 28mm, 35mm) and achieve 5x optical zoom capabilities, extendable up to 120mm. Additionally, these models support 4K60 ProRes video recording and offer direct connectivity to external drives through the USB-C port.
