Yesterday, i.e. Saturday, October 8, 2023, South Africa scored 428 runs in 50 overs while playing its first match of ICC World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium formerly known as Firoz Shah Kotla Stadium. Before yesterday’s match, Australia were holding the record of smashing the highest score in the World Cup. However, it was not the only record that South Africa scripted in their first match of ICC World Cup 2023 as South Africa batsmen also scored of scoring three centuries in a match of ICC World Cup. It was the first time that three batsmen of a team scored centuries in an ICC World Cup match. The three centurions of the match were Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram. Reportedly, while batting at the lower order, Aiden Markram scored a century in just 49 balls. Three new records were scripted by South Africa in yesterday’s match. South Africa Beat Sri Lanka by 102 runs
While chasing the mounted target of 428 set by South Africa, the Sri Lankan opener failed to give an electrifying start to the team which was indeed to achieve this feat. However, the Sri Lankan batsman did not lose hope and kept on smashing South African bowlers. Sri Lanka scored 326 runs in just 44.5 overs but they fell short of wickets as the team got all out before playing 50 overs.
