On Monday, October 16, 2023, i.e. yesterday, match number 14 of the ICC ODI World Cup was played between Australia and Sri Lanka. Yesterday’s match was quite similar to India vs Pakistan as Sri Lanka. At one point SL was 125-0 but the team bundled at for just 84 runs. The wicket of Sri Lanka fell on 125 and the team got all out at 209 which was easily chased down by Men in Yellow. Despite a good start, Sri Lankan batsmen could not finish their inning the way they should. While on the other hand, Australia was finding a rhythm by winning a match after being thrashed by the hands of South Africa and India. It was a good chance for Sri Lanka to rule out Australia from the race of Semi-Finals. But the five-time champions have kept their campaign alive.

Sri Lanka must be aware of its mistake despite getting a good start and over a hundred-run partnership between its opener, the team could not play all 50 overs and bundled at just 209 runs. Australian skipper Pat Cummins needs a special acknowledgment for yesterday’s performance, he was the player who gave a much-needed breakthrough to his team by sending openers Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka who were in good form, back to the pavilion. After Cummins, Adam Zampa came into the play and he picked up a total of 4 wickets in the game. Mitchell Starc restricted the Sri Lankans to score big.

There was no Sri Lankan batsman who even crossed the mark of 25 runs except its openers. Sri Lanka lost 10 wickets for just 84 runs. When it came to bowl, Sri Lankan bowlers could not do much against the Australian batsmen as they convincingly chased down the target of 210 runs. Australia scored 215 runs in 35.2 runs with 5 wickets in hand.

It was a crucial win for Australia. In fact, it was a do-or-die match for Australia as the five-time champions already have lost their first two games against mighty India and South Africa. The next match of Men in Yellow is against Pakistan who also have shown good form in this tournament except against India. Australia’s next match is against Pakistan which will be played on Friday, October 20, 2023, in Bengaluru. It will be a high-scoring encounter between the two teams. Both teams have similar bowling attacks mainly relying on pacers. Stay tuned to this website for more details and further updates.
