Afghanistan’s fast bowler, Naveen-ul-Haq, made a comment about the upcoming match against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, scheduled for November 7. Naveen expressed his views on his official Instagram account, alluding to a situation from 2021. In 2021, the Australian cricket team canceled their planned visit to Afghanistan due to the political turmoil following the Taliban’s takeover of the country. Naveen’s social media post read, “Having declined a bilateral series, it will now be interesting to see how cricket Australia fares in the World Cup – #standards #humanrights or just chasing points.” In a separate development, on Saturday, Australia secured a 33-run victory over England, officially eliminating the defending champions from the 2023 World Cup. Spinner Adam Zampa played a pivotal role by taking crucial wickets for his team, while Ben Stokes put up a strong performance for England, scoring 64 runs.

Australia’s formidable batting lineup did not perform up to expectations against the English bowlers who had been struggling with form, resulting in the team being bowled out for a total of 286 runs. Chris Woakes took four wickets, and Mark Wood and Adil Rashid claimed two wickets each, preventing Australia from reaching the coveted 300-run mark. Australia, a five-time world champion, has had a reasonably successful campaign in the tournament, winning 5 out of their 7 matches and appearing well-positioned to reach the semi-finals of the prestigious event.

On the flip side, Afghanistan delivered a strong performance on Friday, claiming a convincing 7-wicket victory over the Netherlands, marking their fourth win in the tournament. Mohammad Nabi’s outstanding contribution earned him the title of Player of the Match, as he secured three wickets in the Netherlands vs. Afghanistan World Cup match. Afghanistan has demonstrated remarkable prowess in the ICC World Cup 2023, securing significant victories over three previous world champions, including England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Despite entering the tournament as underdogs, the team has established its dominance and now holds a promising position to advance to the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023.
