The Football Federation of Saudi Arabia stated it intended to host the FIFA World Cup 2034. The official statement of the Saudi Arabia Football Federation stated, “It intends to deliver a world-class tournament and will draw inspiration from Saudi Arabia’s ongoing social and economic transformation and the country’s deep-rooted passion for football”. Nevertheless, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also confirmed that Saudi Arabia will bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
Mohammed bin Salman said, “Saudi Arabia’s desire to bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup is a reflection of the country’s progress in all sectors. The kingdom has quickly emerged as a leading hub and an international destination for hosting major events thanks to its economic strength, rich cultural heritage, and the ambition of its people.” Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal who is the minister of Sport of Saudi Arabia said hosting a FIFA World Cup in 2023 would help them achieve their dream of becoming a leading nation in world sport. He further added that hosting the FIFA World Cup would mark a big milestone in the transformation of Saudi Arabia.
The Minister of Sport of Saudi Arabia further added, “As a welcoming and emerging home for all sports, we believe that hosting a FIFA World Cup is a natural next step in our football journey,”. Earlier Saudi Arabia had planned to co-host the FIFA World Cup 2030 alongside Greece and Egypt but now it will be hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, largely.
